FOOTBALL PART 1- offense

Due to my immense love of American football, I will be explaining and informing about this graceful and complex sport. Moreover, many KIS students are not familiar to American football, so the next two posts will be guiding and attracting students to the world of football. I swear that none of the information I will be posting will be from an internet site; all of them will be purely from my head and heart, so it would be much easier to understand. Since football is a complex sport, I divided the information into two parts: offense and defense. So please fasten your seat belts to get ready for the best sport in the world, football.

Offensive Positions

Quarterback: This position acts as the leader in offense. In addition, he is the one who snaps (receives) the football from the center and starts the play. He has three choices after the snap: throw, hand it to running back, or sneak (run). The QB’s back number ranges from a single digit to 20 and they are very tall since this is an advantage in seeing over the linemen.

Wide receiver: This position is tries everything to receive the football after snap. There are usually 4 WRs in a play, and they may block for the running back when the football is handed off to the running back. The WR’s back number ranges from the ten’s or the eighty’s and they have to be very fast and powerful for a great play.

Running back: This position runs as much as they can after receiving the football from the quarterback. If the QB is throwing the ball, the running back helps the offensive guards by protecting the quarterback or it can go for a catch. The RB’s back number ranges in the thirty’s and they also have to be fast, powerful, and agile.

Full back: This position acts as a co-worker for the running back. It may run and catch, but it usually blocks for and helps the running back get a big gain. The FB’s back number ranges in the thirty’s and the fourty’s, and they have to be very strong and tough.

Tight end: This position acts as a co-worker for the wide receivers. It both receives and blocks equally. The TE’s back number ranges in the eighty’s, and they have to be tough with good hands.

Center: This position hands the football to the quarterback as mentioned above, so this position starts off the play. The center is the same as the offensive guards in other aspects. The C’s back number ranges in the sixty’s and they have to be tall, immense, and strong.

Offensive guards: This position protects and blocks for the running back and quarterback. Therefore, if the offensive guards are not good, the quarterback nor the running back will shine. The OG’s back number ranges from the sixty’s and the seventy’s and they have to be tall, big, and strong.

*OT is the same position as OG just except where they stand

I love football because every position is somehow related to each other and it is a very strong team sport. The next post will be explaining more about the defensive formations, so get ready!
