FOOTBALL PART 1- offense

Due to my immense love of American football, I will be explaining and informing about this graceful and complex sport. Moreover, many KIS students are not familiar to American football, so the next two posts will be guiding and attracting students to the world of football. I swear that none of the information I will be posting will be from an internet site; all of them will be purely from my head and heart, so it would be much easier to understand. Since football is a complex sport, I divided the information into two parts: offense and defense. So please fasten your seat belts to get ready for the best sport in the world, football.

Offensive Positions

Quarterback: This position acts as the leader in offense. In addition, he is the one who snaps (receives) the football from the center and starts the play. He has three choices after the snap: throw, hand it to running back, or sneak (run). The QB’s back number ranges from a single digit to 20 and they are very tall since this is an advantage in seeing over the linemen.

Wide receiver: This position is tries everything to receive the football after snap. There are usually 4 WRs in a play, and they may block for the running back when the football is handed off to the running back. The WR’s back number ranges from the ten’s or the eighty’s and they have to be very fast and powerful for a great play.

Running back: This position runs as much as they can after receiving the football from the quarterback. If the QB is throwing the ball, the running back helps the offensive guards by protecting the quarterback or it can go for a catch. The RB’s back number ranges in the thirty’s and they also have to be fast, powerful, and agile.

Full back: This position acts as a co-worker for the running back. It may run and catch, but it usually blocks for and helps the running back get a big gain. The FB’s back number ranges in the thirty’s and the fourty’s, and they have to be very strong and tough.

Tight end: This position acts as a co-worker for the wide receivers. It both receives and blocks equally. The TE’s back number ranges in the eighty’s, and they have to be tough with good hands.

Center: This position hands the football to the quarterback as mentioned above, so this position starts off the play. The center is the same as the offensive guards in other aspects. The C’s back number ranges in the sixty’s and they have to be tall, immense, and strong.

Offensive guards: This position protects and blocks for the running back and quarterback. Therefore, if the offensive guards are not good, the quarterback nor the running back will shine. The OG’s back number ranges from the sixty’s and the seventy’s and they have to be tall, big, and strong.

*OT is the same position as OG just except where they stand

I love football because every position is somehow related to each other and it is a very strong team sport. The next post will be explaining more about the defensive formations, so get ready!

GET IN THE POOL AND BE THE FASTEST

IT”S PRACTICE TIME! Finally, this week is the time I’ve been waiting for since May- when swimming season was brought to an end. That’s right, swimming season is back! The season was not suppose to be coming to tackle me until February, but our beloved coaches made an immense decision to have a preseason for a better start off of regular season. The sign-up sheet was filled with 40 names, which is a good sign because more people equals more competition. I was “the” breast-stroker a.k.a “frogger” last season, and I will be  trying my best to break the two records for 50m and 100m breast stroke. Pre-season commences this Wednesday and it will be a quite hilarious to see 40 swimmers in one pool. Our goal for this season is to be third place, while we were fourth last year. Swimming a season is time consuming and makes me feel exhausted everyday. However, I just can’t stop swimming because swimming is all about challenging oneself and I love to fight challenges! FIGHTING Phoenix Swim Team!

Noblesse

Noblesse is an eerie title for a blog like mine, but is is an interesting one for a “webtoon”. Moreover, a webtoon is exactly what is says: cartoon in the web. Webtoons are very popular among teens in Korea and it has an addicting sense that makes us viewers wait with anxiety until the date of new release. Naver, Daum, and many other sites have hundreds of webtoons with genres stretching from sports to melancholy. Due to my male-teenage-brain, I love to read action and adventure type of webtoons, and these days I am darted into “Noblesse”. So what is a noblesse? When I type it in the widgets page by pressing F4, it defines it as nobility; well then what is nobility? I type nobility again and it gives me the right answer: the quality of being noble in character, mind, birth, or rank. Furthermore, the main character Ry is a so-called Noblesse in the story, and a Noblesse is a specific type of race that has more superior aspects than human. I would love to tell you everything I know about them, but the author did not reveal everything to keep the story interesting. There is a scene that really touched my heart. The scene was focused on Ry and a huge monster villain, while nobody in the scene knows about Ry’s true strength as a noblesse. The monster villain who looks scary as it can be, goes in front of  Ry and stares at him as if he’s going to bite Ry’s head off, and this is how it goes.

Ry: A bit high (high as in tall)

Monster: Wh…what?

Ry: Your eye level is a bit high

Monster: (Gets outraged) What are you talking about!

Ry: (eyes get red and mind controls the villain; this is the first time for Ry to attack a villain) Kneel down

Monster: (cannot control himself and kneels down powerlessly)

Ry: This is our difference in level of ability

In case you didn’t understand, Ry forcefully made the monster kneel down with his eye’s mind control, and since the monster is kneeling down, his view point is much lower than Ry. Therefore Ry says, “This is our difference in level of ability.” to emphasize how useless the monster is compared to the noblesse’s strong intriguing powers.

Graduation Day for Class 2010

Graduation: the receiving or conferring of an academic degree or diploma.

There are only 4 graduations in our lives– elementary, middle and high school, college– and I have graduated only 2 times in my life. Moreover, many of my role models faced their third graduations today in Korea International School. Class of 2010 (I’m 2014) finally graduated their high school today, and the band+orchestra performed the processional and recessional. There were a student speaker– Lynn Hong– and a teacher speaker– Mr. Joo. I really enjoyed Mr. Joo’s speech due to its humor and strong message to the new college freshmen. The seniors were always a role model and a mentor for me; despite of the 3 or 4 year different in age, all of them were amiable and caring to their underclassmen. Moreover, I got to know some seniors in clubs, band, and swimming and I will never forget them, since they were a part of my life. They always provided tips for me and answered my annoying questions without complaints, which makes the 2010 class so special. I can’t wait 3 more years untill my third graduation, and I hope t become a great upperclassman for the underclassmen coming to highschool.

Spanish Masterpiece Song

Spanish class is getting interesting as time passes by. There are fun project (despite the fact that it is challenging) and it just feels good to learn a 3rd language in my life. Our lesson recently was on body parts and therefore our project was to make an original piece of music regarding the body parts vocabulary and “how do you feel” types of expressions. My group members, Austin Choi and Michael Cho, did a fantastic job pulling things together and producing a so called “masterpiece”; Austin, the guitar; Michael, the lyrics. So thought it would be courageous thing to post the music and the lyrics in my blog since we are so proud of our work (maybe proud only for us). I hope you enjoy the music and follow along the song since the key is in a teenage-boy-key. Thank you!

me duelen mis rodillas
Pues vamos a la médica

ella es muy bonita
los ojos son como el mar
la cara es como el la pintura
el cuerpo es como la escultura
el labio es como la rosa
el pelo es como cascada

Había un muchacho guapo
Él ayudó a mi dolor
a mi me encanta ese chico
te quiero
Mi dolor está yéndose
por su ayuda y amor
No puedo esperar más
y ahora

¿cómo te sientes ahora?
Me siento mejor Gracias
Pues vamos al parque juntos

¿Cómo te sientes ahora?
mi boca se siente mejor
Pues voy a darte un beso

Spanish Weather Forecast

The hyperlink above leads to video regarding a weather forecast. I am pretty sure you don’t understand the contents spoken by Michael and me, and this is because it is in Spanish! The project was to make a brief authentic weather forecast entirely in Spanish. Therefore, it was not an easy task, but Michael and I enjoyed and learned a lot.

The Mysterious Watch Incident

The last 3 months were a melancholy time frame for me. This was due to an absurd watch mystery I had to face and investigate. One day back from school, I noticed my table was a bit empty without my watch. Moreover, I was sure I didn’t wear a watch that day nor moved it our from its place. However, while I was in a shock-stage many things were going through my mind. “Should I tell mom about this?” “NO! Shes gonna freak out!””What should I do?” I even thought about buying the same watch and replacing it, but the reality was rejecting me to that notion. My conclusion was to act like nothing happened and just carry on with my life, but I was still in grief since I lost my watch. The watch was a present from Dad when I went to France with him in 2008. Moreover, it wasn’t a cheap watch, so I felt more devastated. Whenever I saw a the same brand of watch, my heart felt like it was being penetrated by a stick. Fortunately, one day my mom asked me to clean up my closet, which I never do voluntarily. While I was cleaning up my closet, I opened up the bottom drawer and saw a familiar looking black case with “Em*or*o A*ma*i” one the top. With shock, I immediately opened up the case and there it was! The watch that made my hair white! I gave it a hug and asked my mom why this was in the bottom drawer inside my closet. She was laughing and said she put the watch in there because it was collecting dust on my table. Still filled with astonishment, I went back to my room and wore the watch. I certainly learned a big lesson from this incident and I will never forget it.

Last Swim Meet of the 2009-2010 Season :(

April 23rd and 24th were the days of my curtain call in swimming. 4 months of painstaking practices were finally going to be paid off in Seoul Foreign School. Moreover, swimming with the same people for 4 months and going over the same hardships together connects a special bond between the KIS swim team. Therefore, the circumference in the bus to SFS was very caring and a bit weird (^^;;). The championship congregated all the events into a two-day meet, so there were more chances to swim, which means more chances for breaking records. My purpose for swimming was to break the 50 and 100 meter breast stroke time, and I am only 1 second off the school record. I couldn’t imagine how good it would feel to put 2 of my names in the white board on the way to the swimming pool :). Furthermore, I was assigned 5 events to swim: 50 breast, 100 breast, 100 free, medley relay, and free relay. I even prepared a red bull sponsored by Austin Choi for my medley relay team. Among the events I had to swim, 50 and 100 breast were the highlights of the meet; Friday, 50 breast; Saturday, 100 breast. The first day of the meet was quiet disappointing; my 50 breast record was 0.2 seconds away from the school record:(. Despite the fact I beat my personal record, I was not in the good mood. Fortunately, there was Saturday left with the 100 breast meet. After the first half of the meet in Friday, Seung-woo (most respected swimmer in KIS) honorably bought us sam-gyup-sal to gain strength for Saturday. The second half of the championship was intense. I could feel the passion and desire to break records by all the swimmers in the pool. I eventually felt devastated due to the 0.3 seconds for the 100 breast, but I still saw hope for a great season next year. GREAT JOB TO ALL KIS SWIMMERS! ONCE A TEAM IS A TEAM FOREVER!

Voy a Ir a la ESPAÑA – Finale

San Augustin, the Spanish High school my host attends, is quite similar to KIS. Each students decide their own schedule and has a dilation fields of courses offered from the school. Since Hugo, my amazing host, wanted to be a CEO in the future; he took philosophy, economy, math, Spanish, English, Art History, and History. I took some classes with him, but usually hung out in the computer room with the other KISians in San Augustin. Moreover, we sent E-mails to our parents, uploaded photos in Facebook and socialized in English, which was not easy to do with my host. During English class, the teacher asked Michell Lim and I to make a presentation regarding Korea for the student during one of the classes. This sounded pretty fun and interesting, but speaking in Spanish was the challenge. Therefore, after I arrived home I printed out pics of SNSD, Kimchi, Seoul and interesting aspects of Korea with Hugo and practiced what to say. Eventually, I had to give a total of 4 presentations to other classes (I finally learned how hard and exhausting teaching is!). Other than school, we (KISians and hosts) shopped, toured, and played a lot together, so we reconciled a lot in Spain. Some memorable events were the tense soccer game in the night and the last day in school. All the KISians left Valladolid during the school time, so our eyes were filled with tears when we left our families, brothers, and sisters. Before I went to Spain, I had thought that the trip will be scary and intimidating, but I was totally wrong. All the people in Spain are very affable and caring, so it felt really comfortable, so this trip was a great success. THANKS TO- Hugo, Alberto, Rocio, Carlos, Alberto, Mario, Ruben aka Bob, Manuel, Victor, Oriol, Elena!!! I MISS YOU GUYS!!! 🙂
